I grew up in Orange County, CA. And became a believer and follower of Christ in High School through a mentor who was also our Youth Paster at the church we attended. I met my wife, Becky at youth group and after years of friendship, married her in March of 1975. We have 3 kids, all married, and a total of 10 grandchildren ranging in age from 17 down to one who is less than a year old.
I have had many jobs, including truck driving, insurance sales, and RV manufacturing. In time, the Lord led us to Hemet, California where I landed a job with the Hemet Fire Department as a Firefighter. Through the years, I promoted up through the ranks to Engineer, Captain, Battalion Chief, and finally Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal. During this time I also went back to school and graduated with two Bachelor’s degrees, one in Fire Science and another in Public Fire Administration. I retired after 30 years of service.
We moved to Bend, Oregon in 2010, following our daughter Jamie and her family. We tried several churches that first year before attending New Hope and have been here ever since. My wife and I enjoy being active in our church and in our community.
I enjoy Bible study, hiking, gardening, woodworking and model trains, but my favorite activity is spending time with family. I volunteer for SOS and the Warm Care ministry, and am privileged to be a member of the Pastor Parish at New Hope. I also volunteer for Bend Fire Department in non-emergency activities and various other community events.
My favorite verse (at this time in my life) is “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.” Isaiah 43:2
